Exploring Photoshop Actions

Basically, Adobe Photoshop is considered to be the most useful tool for photographers, graphic  and web designers and artists. However, some of them would like to save a lot of time in modifying their images.

Four Lightroom Commands That You Should Know

123As we all know, Lightroom is one of the best image processing software in the industry today. Most photographers use the program as it helps them save time and effort in editing hundreds and thousands of images. Moreover, the program is a non-destructive tool that it preserves the original setting of the image from the camera.

In this article, we will talk about the four Lightroom commands that you should know.

Lightroom Shortcuts

There are a lot of shortcut keys in Lightroom and it really takes some time to learn all of it. There are a lot of online sites that offers tutorials on how to learn Lightroom shortcuts. However, Sleeklens came up with a new product line that provides free Lightroom tutorials. In any case, you just have to press crtl+ / to open the tab in Lightroom showing you the simple shortcut keys. Basically, all of these shortcut keys can be found in the develop module in Lightroom.

Choose Solo Mode

If you want to get rid of those unnecessary panels on your Lightroom screen, you can work in one panel by choosing the solo mode in Lightroom. To change the setting of the panel, you just have to right click on one of the panel you choose to close and select solo mode from the selection.

Play With Colors in Lightroom

The default colors are visible in the Lightroom color selection. But if you only want to play with few colors, you can do this by going to the library mode and choosing the metadata. After choosing it, select color label set and edit the color that you want to use. Playing with colors in Lightroom is easier with this feature.

Before and After View

When working with images in Lightroom, it is always easy to track the changes made as it has the ability to view the before and after of the image. In most cases, photographers often use this viewing option as they can immediately alter the changes they want to modify.

How to Email Images in Lightroom

LR47As what I’ve said from the previous articles, Lightroom is basically about helping photographers save time and effort. You can do a lot of things with Lightroom such as organizing images, creating efficient Lightroom presets, and emailing photographs in Lightroom.

In this article, we will talk about how to use the email features of Lightroom and how to send photos via email. These tips are very simple and quick to set-up so you don’t need to worry too much about anything.

Here are the steps in sending photos via E-mail:

Create and Setup Lightroom’s email account

For you to send photos via email without leaving the Lightroom’s interface, you need to create and setup an email account for lightroom to contact your friends and client. First, you need to access the Lightroom email account manager by right clicking on the images that you want to send and select email photo option. A new window will pop-up which is very similar to any popular email setup. After filling all the required information, you are now ready to share, and send messages via lightroom’s email service.

Understanding Lightroom’s Email Window

Basically, this window is very similar to what we are using. It is important to understand why it is included in the services of Lightroom. The program is a one-stop shop for most of us, photographers. And we don’t like to use a lot of programs since it cost so much of our time. For me, having this email feature in lightroom is helpful because I don’t need to get out of the program just to send important pictures to my friends, family, and clients.

Other than experiencing minor issues, this email feature by Lightroom has proven to be helpful and effective, especially when you need to send files immediately to your clients. Truly, this feature has helped me save more time and effort. If you want more tips and tricks check sites that have a huge resource for lightroom tutorials.

Where and How to get help with your photography

It is a fact of life that even the best of us need help from time to time. This is because none of us knows everything all the time. While it is true you can decide to go the trial-and-error way and try to troubleshoot any issues you have with your photography, it is always best to seek for help. This will not only help save you time, it will also make you a better photographer as you may end up learning more than you asked for.

Forums and communities

pexels-photo-largeThere is an unlimited number of forums and communities that are specifically geared towards photography. If you want to become a batter photographer,m it would be a good idea for you to align yourself with these communities. This is especially important if you are new to certain aspects of photography such as using Adobe Lightroom Presets. Ensure that the people in your circles are knowledgeable enough to teach you a new thing all the time.

One on one help

It is possible to get one on one help with your photography although this is a fairly difficult path to get on. This is because most photographer are usually too busy for these sessions. That said, it is possible to get paid help on a one on one model with some of the top photographers in your vicinity. You may have to make some special arrangements but this can be done, If you are going with the paid option, ensure that you do proper research so that the person you decide to get at your mentor will give you the best value for your money.

Working with others

While this option is closely related to working with some one on a one on one basis, it is different in that they will not be teaching or helping you directly. You have to be observant and learn your own by being around them. You can observer their workflow while they work with Lightroom presets for best sports camera and get to learn from there. You can also decide to work under them sort of like their assistant. This will give you raw learning experiences while helping you get answers to any questions that you have pertaining to photography.

As you can see, there are several ways in which you can get help with your photography, all you have to do is know what would work best for you and go with it. If you cannot find the help that you need, you may need to go back to the basics and get started by reading lots of tutorials.

Importance Of Photo Editing Tools

ss3As a photographer, I received several questions pertaining to the quality of my images. There are some people who wonder if my images are real or just Photoshopped. I don’t get offended by these questions, I feel happy and honored instead because they took the time to analyze and understand the quality of my images. We all know that the raw pictures from the camera is not enough. It actually doesn’t take the actual color and mood of the subject. Whereas, by using editing tools such as Photoshop or Lightroom, it is easy for us to put a life in the image to make it livelier and realistic. Photography is not just about taking a lot of random images, it’s also about producing high-quality images.

Again, most of the time, DSLR cameras, and other regular camera don’t take the same color, tones, brightness, and mood that I experienced during the shoot. But because of the help of Adobe Lightroom, I can make it realistic to show my viewers on what I actually saw.

Generally, our eyes can perceive a greater range of colors and tones than our DSLR cameras. As we all know, the lens of our eyes is capable of filtering 20 or more lights. But the lens of most cameras can only perceive half of it. For example, I am seeing a greater view of the sand, sunset, and the beach, however, my camera can only capture half of the color tone of the sunset and the sky. In order for me to produce great sets of images, I need Lightroom to help me make it more outstanding and eye-catching image.

Lightroom contains a lot of features that can be of great help in our editing process. There are a lot of online tutorials on how to edit seascapes in Lightroom. These articles can help you improve your skills in editing seascapes themed images. But whatever you desire, I still believe that you should explore both the features of your camera and Lightroom to know which tones to adjust.

Moreover, owning and producing the best set of images is all about using the best photo editing tool. The real magic of having good quality images happens not only inside the camera but also with Lightroom. Make sure to use it appropriately as you can.

How To Create Lightroom Presets?

There are a lot of things that you can do inside the Lightroom interface. In fact, you can save a lot of time by making new and personalized Lightroom Presets to use on your images. In addition, Lightroom 5 presets are reusable and modifiable.

As an amateur photographer, I needed Lightroom to help me edit all the images that I took from the field. As much as I want to use Photoshop, I don’t have enough time to edit the image manually. With Lightroom, I don’t need to spend longer hours just to modify images. In this article, I decided to give a brief yet informative tutorial on how to create Lightroom presets.

Before creating presets, you need to start the process by choosing images that you want to edit and include in the preset collections. Open it in the develop module in Lightroom, set all the settings to default or zero if you want. You don’t need to worry anything since Lightroom is a non-destructive tool which preserves the original setting of the file.

How To Create Lightroom Presets?

To create presets, go to the develop module panel located on the left side of the interface and click the “create new preset” icon with the plus sign. This will bring you to a new window that allows you to create customized presets. The next thing to do after you’re done with the preset is to label the preset, select a folder on the library module and press the create button to save the new preset.

How To Apply Presets upon Importing Images?

To apply the preset you have just created, open the import window and set the develop settings to the presets. When you’re done importing the images, it is now up to you which photos you edit using the preset you created. Always remember that Lightroom presets can be applied to one or more images.

Hopefully, this tutorial has given you some ideas on how to create wonderful presets using Lightroom. This will not only help you save time and effort, it will also give you more time to capture new images.

Re-Organizing Your Lightroom Presets

ph4Lightroom is one of the best design software editing packages for photographers. It has a dedicated folder where presets are stored and which is “creatively” named “Develop Presets”.

Lightroom comes with a selection of Develop Presets, and you can create presets as many as you want. You can re-organize your Adobe Lightroom presets in different ways if you just duplicate them.

Before you started re-organizing your presets, I strongly recommend that you make sure you backup your original presets.

To back up your presets, below are the steps on how to do it:

First, open Lightroom – > Go to the Develop Module – > Right click of one of your presets – > Select “Show in Explorer” – > then, the stored folder where the preset are will open up – > Select the “Develop Presets” folder – > Right click and choose copy – > Now, paste the folder on your hard drive to back it up.

After your preset are backed up, you can now finally re-organize your presets within Lightroom by dragging presets into new folders you create.

Just open the “Lightroom” – > Go to the Develop Module – >Right click one of your presets – > Select “Show in Explorer” – > then, the stored folder where the preset are will open up – > go back to the Lightroom and close it down – > Move one step back in the hierarchy and begin to rearrange your presets.

Now, when you reopen Lightroom, the presets will be re-organized just the way you want.

With a little thought and planning, you will be able to organize your Lightroom presets for more efficiency.

Yepey! You can now re-organize your Lightroom 6 presets. Enjoy and have fun of it.

Here are some helpful tip to make good Adobe Lightroom presets:

  • Basic Lightroom preset adjustments – increased color exposure, contrast, brightness and saturation.
  • Split toning – balance dark shadows, low saturation and maintain highlights

Would You Use Lightroom Bundled Presets?

Pre3I’ve been using adobe lightroom and presets for quite some time now, and just few weeks ago, I opted to update the list of my preset collections by creating new presets. But because I only have limited time to make new ones, I decided to look for new and exciting free and paid lightroom preset bundles.

Like most products, lightroom presets has their own advantages and disadvantages.  Putting on presets on images is the easiest way to distinguish if it suits better on the photo or not. Free and paid bundled presets can help you save more time and effort. If you are busy with some other things but needs to finish some lightroom task, downloading presets is the best choice.

However, there are still some bundled presets that are not worth to download and buy since the effects are not useful. These badly created set of presets can create more mistakes. It is best to double the check the work of others before deciding to download. Make sure that the adjustments, controls, and other important things are well created. Lightroom experts said that the best lightroom presets adjust only important and specific sliders.

Installing lightroom preset

There are two ways to install presets in lightroom from a single collection or folder; automatic and manual method, but I recommend automatic since it is fast and easy to install. If you are about to install a lot of presets, manual method is for you. You can check more lightroom 6 presets here.

Previews and Application of Presets

If you want to view your downloaded preset, make sure to roll over the curser to the Preset panel and a navigator preview will show you the latest setting and update of your presets. This allows you to find your preferred presets easily.

Upgrading Lightroom 4 to Lightroom 5

This is a very quick guide to upgrade your Lightroom 4 to Lightroom 5, if you’re considering moving up to the latest and greatest version of Lightroom.  If you are afraid about upgrading, this guide or steps might help you to go through the process. Watch the video below and learn how to install lightroom:

Step 1. Back up and save all your existing catalogs

Before you upgrade, it is always a good idea to make a complete backup process of the entire system before undertaking any major software change.

Along with making a reliable backup, I need you to take this opportunity to save all your metadata down to the file level too before upgrading.  In case that there is a disaster, and all of your data has been saved down, then recovery is easy. But if your current metadata has not been saved down to the file level and disaster strikes, then life gets miserable.

LR21Step 2. Download and Install Lightroom 5 Application

Download the Lightroom 5 Upgrade installer package, and after downloading, it’s time to allow the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 installer. During the installing process, you must agree the legalese of the Adobe’s End User Licensing Agreement, and you may need to give the installer permission to add new information to your hard drive. If the installer ask for guidance be sure that you install the Lightroom 5 application onto your internal hard drive.

Step 3. Upgrade your old version Lightroom to the new version Lightroom 5

Once your new software has been successfully installed, you see the Lightroom 5 icon on your desktop. You must ignore the icon for now because clicking it does not guarantee that the right Catalog gets upgraded. I toughly suggest tracking down your Lightroom Catalog at the operating system level and using the right click > open with> adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 method instead.

Your Lightroom 5 will begin working on a copy of your existing Lightroom Catalog once you cite the upgrade process.  If you’re using the right click trick on your existing Catalog, then the program will convert a copy for use with the new Lightroom 5 Catalog format. And if you’ll going to skip this step, then you might upgrade the wrong Catalog or worse scenario might end up creating a blank Lightroom 5 database. Once the Catalog upgrade process is complete you can go back and manually delete your older Lightroom.

Step 4.  Make sure that all images are visible and available

Write down the total number of photographs in your upgraded catalog, then close LR5 and open LR4. You must look the total number of images in LR4 and make sure the numbers are match. Open again the LR5 and then go through some random images and open up 100% views to make sure that the images are all there.

Step 5. Back up everything again

If the upgrade process worked properly then you should have all of your old information plus the exciting new tools that Lightroom 5 brings to the game. Take this opportunity to make another complete system backup at this point so that they are ready if disaster strikes.

It generally takes about an hour to move from an older version up to the latest version. And the new tools that Lightroom 5 offers are totally worth effort.

I’m currently auditioning for new hosts for The Digital Photography Show so – if you think you can fill their ample shoes, please drop me a line and let me know what you think why YOU are the best person (or team) to take over one of the world’s most successful podcasts! This could be your chance to make a worldwide name for yourself as someone who is passionate about digital photography. If you want to audition, please email me an mp3 file with your audition. Make it less than 5 minutes long and smaller than 5MB. Good luck!
